4 annual review of the HIV- TB D43 training grant: The workshop started on November 13

The HIV-TB D43 annual grant symposium is held from Wednesday 13 to Friday 15 November 2019 at the Azalai Grand Hotel in Bamako.

The opening ceremony of this meeting, which brings together some thirty participants, took place in Azalai grand hotel of Bamako, in the presence of the UCRC Director, Professor Seydou Doumbia, the NIH representatives, …The HIV and Mycobacterial Disease Research and Training Program in Mali which started in April 2016 ends in March 2021.

Why this program?

In Mali and many parts of Africa, the incidence of mycobacterial infection is high and driven in a large part by the overlapping HIV epidemic. MTB and MAF, both closely related members of the M. tuberculosis complex (MTBC), as well as NTM, cause serious human mycobacterial infection and disease in West Africa.

The program aims to:

  • Produce and enhance the careers of laboratory investigators capable of performing advanced research on the molecular biology, genetics, immunology, virology, pathogenesis and microbiology of HIV-associated mycobacterial infection
  • Train research scientists to perform analyses on the epidemiology, behavioral, operational, implementation and health systems research relevant to HIV-associated mycobacterial infection and disease
  • Train clinician researchers to perform clinical investigations and trials on interventions for the diagnosis and treatment of adult and pediatric patients with HIV-associated mycobacterial infection

The Type of Trainings are:

In Short Term: Annual Symposium, Expert Faculty Workshops, Malian Faculty Enrichment.

In Medium Term: Diploma Mycobacteriology, Diploma HIV, Diploma Retrovirology, Diploma Pediatric HIV/TB.

In Long Term: Masters USTTB: Public Health, Masters USTTB: Microbiology, Masters USTTB: Bioinformatics, Master NU: MSCI, Masters Global Health: on line, PhD: Microbiology, Mentored Research Award.
