Mali: Prof. Ogobara Doumbo created the MRTC, currently ICER-Mali

“Few African scientists, working in their homeland, have gained international recognition. Ogobara Doumbo, from the Faculty of medicine in Bamako, was one of those. He died on June 9, 2018, at the age of 62 years. « The UCRC pays tribute to this son of traditionpractitioners, who had devoted his life to the fight against malaria. », said Prof. Seydou Doumbia.

Professor of Parasitology-Mycology at the University of Bamako, Ogobara was the Director of the Malaria Research and Training Center (MRTC), Bamako, which he had created in 1992 with Yéya Touré. This Centre, currently called  the International Center for Excellence in Research (ICER-Mali), is considered to be a model for strengthening research capacities in low-income countries.
