Scientific and grant writing workshop: Professor Seydou Doumbia has launched the works

The University Clinical Research Center- UCRC Director , Professor Seydou Doumbia chaired the opening ceremony of the scientific and grand writing workshop, this Monday, June 24, 2019, in the conference room of the Medical School and Dentistry (FMOS).

This first session, which runs from 24 to 28 June 2019, is organized by the University Clinical Research Center (UCRC), as part of its mission to strengthen research capacities. It’s in collaboration with the FMOS, through its Department of teaching and Research in Public Health (DERSP), and the USTTB-Johns Hopkins Fogarty Research Training Program (D43) Funded by the National Institutes of Health of the USA. 

After welcoming the participants, Professor Doumbia presented the University Clinical Research Center. The UCRC, he says, is an initiative between the Malian Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Higher Education, University of Science and Technology of Bamako (USTTB) and NIAID.  The purpose of the collaboration is to enhance the infrastructure and resources needed to facilitate clinical research in Mali. 

According to him, the UCRC vision is to become an international clinical research center of excellence in West Africa, and it’s mission is to improve the quality of healthcare nationally, regionally and globally by facilitating excellent clinical research at international standards, strengthning research capacity and providing training.  The UCRC is mobilizing investigators from a wide spectrum of skills around the development and implementation of clinical research projects as well as career development of young investigators to prepare next generations in clinical research, he added.

In his presentation, Johns Hopkins University representative, Professor Peter Winch indicated that during this session, working and collaborations groups will be established for scientific and grant writing and the development of new research projects. In addition, resources (people, documents, website) will be identified to help participants reach their goals, he said. This first session of “Scientific and Grant Writing” which gathers about sixty participants, will be led by high-level teacher-researchers.

These include: Prof. Seydou Doumbia, UCRC Director and Principal Investigator of the Johns Hopkins Fogarty Research Training Program (D43); Prof Hamadoun Sangho, Head of the DERSP and Research Professor at FMOS; Prof Akory Ag Iknane, research professor at the FMOS; Prof Abdoulaye Dabo, teacher and researcher at the National Center for Scientific and Technical Research; Dr. Issiaka Sagara, researcher at the Malaria Research and Training Center (MRTC); Prof Peter Winch, Researcher at Johns Hopkins University , and Dr. Celia Jane Woodfill, from the United States of America.
